100 Days of ✨Touching Some Grass✨
Have you experienced what it is like to feel so incredibly grateful for the goodness in your life while also sharing that space with worry, sadness, and frustration? Do you find yourself thinking a lot, processing a lot, and feeling like you are spinning in circles but craving a way to get grounded?
There may be times when that is a personal journey of seeking balance, and other times when you feel part of a collective that feels the same way. In the United States right now, there are 100 days until Election Day. There is a lot at stake, and you may be finding yourself seeking safe spaces to rejuvenate and find your community. At Fearless Farmers, we love to learn from people’s lived experiences that contribute to the whole. We also know that science and lived experiences show us that strong communities, grounded in lessons that nature teaches us daily, help us view life and make decisions through a regenerative lens that benefits us all.
That is why our Fearless Farmers team invites you to join us at any point along the way over the next 100 days to touch some grass!
Touch Some Grass with Us
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by constant news updates, social media, and information overload. While the phrase "touch grass✨" gets tossed around loosely online, we're reclaiming it with 100 days of reconnection and grounding. Through 100 days of mindfulness prompts, we'll encourage you to not just metaphorically but literally touch some grass by recentering nature, making time for yourself, and finding peace amidst the chaos.
Each day, we're giving you a journal prompt, activity, or just some food for thought. Follow along on Facebook or Instagram to catch each day’s prompt, or sign up for our newsletter for a weekly digest. If you'd like, help us spread the word by sharing about your lived experiences and tagging the posts with #fearlessfarmers #fearlesslytouchgrass #touchgrass100days.
We know there is power in regenerating our connection to the earth and ourselves and how it can spark collective action! Our hope is that 100 days of touching some grass helps foster a sense of place, purpose, and well-being through simple acts of mindfulness. Join us by participating privately, sharing with your friends, or just following along.
As you participate, discover how paying attention to the world around us, in the present moment and without judgment, affects how we think, feel, and experience nature and relationships.
Ecological Mindfulness
Mindfulness simply means “paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally” (Jon Kabat-Zinn: Defining Mindfulness). Mindfulness often involves using our senses, breath, and even visualizations or phrases to help us bring our focus to the present moment.
There is not necessarily an intended outcome or product for this activity. The main focus is to set aside a bit of time, from minutes to hours, to become aware of our surroundings, body, emotions, and thoughts. It can serve as a grounding or centering practice at the beginning of a day or activity or become more of a ritual over time.
Practicing mindfulness through an “ecological” lens may include simply being outside while practicing a breathing technique, using natural materials as props or guides during your observation, and spending quiet time purposefully noticing the ecological community around us.
Searching for More Grounding?
As you practice touching grass over the next 100 days, you may find yourself even more curious about getting grounded to place. We have developed a mini-course called Grounding Down that helps you begin the process of discovering what sits at the center of what brings you joy, what the world needs now, and what you are good at. While participating in this mini course, you will learn how to create your Climate Action Venn Diagram based on the work of Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson that builds upon the Japanese concept of Ikigai.
